Charlize Theron Believes That Women Can Be Good Action Film Makers

In a recent interview with Hindustan Times African born American actress Charlize Theron talks about how women can create waves in action genre which was once dominated by men in the industry.
She features in a female director Gina Prince- Blythewood’s flick called ‘Old Guard.’ In the flick, she’s a part of a pack of mercenaries who are immortals and forced to live alone and avoid any relationships. The film is releasing on Netflix on July 10.
She believes that it is a big misconception that women can’t be good action filmmakers. “A good storyteller is a good storyteller, and once we start trying to confine that to certain sex it becomes incredibly sexist, problematic, and it’s not true. Gina had never done an action film. She obviously had a passion to want to explore this genre. And it just goes to show; if you have a real passion and an urge to want to work in this genre, women are just as capable”, she told Hindustan Times.
She goes on to list other names like Kathryn Bigelow’ who was one of the big names in the action film genre and then Patty Jenkins who directed her in the crime drama ‘Monster’. She elaborates that we are seeing a lot more of female directors albeit it is still less when compared to our male counterparts and the responsibilities handed to them.
Theron also explained that actors should be nicer to producers because it takes a lot in putting a movie together. The actors who are also producers are “kinder to schedules and time.” She tells every actor she works with to produce as that is a “great way of understanding the full concept of making a film.”
Charlize has successively played her part over the years in action-packed films like Mad Max: Fury Road, Atomic Blonde, The Fast and Furious Franchise, and many more. The African born actress has come a long way from experiencing a turbulent childhood to adopting children to finally attaining international fame for her acting skills in a genre that was once considered male-dominated.
