China Launches World’s Largest 5G Mobile Phone Network

China has debuted 5G Mobile Phone Services with three of its state-owned wireless carriers recently and is regarded as a milestone for the country, which is pushing itself to become a technology power even as it remains locked in a trade war with the United States. 

China’s largest wireless career, China Mobile Ltd has unveiled its network in 50 cities, which includes Beijing, Shenzhen, and Shanghai with packages as low as 128 Yuan ($18) a month. Other telecom giants of the country like China Telecom Corp. and China Unicom Hong Kong Ltd. also introduced their services at comparable rates.

China is still behind the US and South Korea in introducing 5G networks. As telecom operators in the United States have introduced 5G to parts of some cities, meanwhile South Korea debuted its version of 5G networks in April, though China is hoping to quickly become the largest network provider by virtue of its huge population and investment made by the companies.

Chris Lane an analyst at Sanford C. Bernstein said, “While some other countries launched 5G services earlier this year, China will have the largest commercial operating 5G network in the world soon. The scale of its network and the price of its 5G services will have a pivotal impact throughout the supply chain”.

The media in China initially reported the carriers would make 5G available from this week and since the end of the week, all three-telecom giant has already started offering access to the service.

More than 10 million subscribers in China have pre-registered for the 5G network, now they will have access to faster Videos and Games, more Virtual Reality Applications and improved performance for the Mobile Videoconferencing. China Mobile has offered some lucrative packages too, like 5G packages for the heavy users are priced similar to 4G plans, which can go as high as 588 Yuan a month.

For now, the largest cities of China like Beijing, Shenzhen, and Shanghai will get full coverage first. The three operators have projected a combined capital spending of 302 billion yuan for this year.

The deployment of 5G infrastructures across China is a challenging task, and therefore it is especially important for Huawei. Though the United States has campaigned against other countries, who are installing Huawei gear, accusing it of serious security threat. Despite the pressure from the US, Huawei said that it had signed more than 60 commercial contracts to supply 5G networks across the world, including 28 contracts in Europe.
