Coronavirus May Never Go Away Says World Health Organization

The World Health Organization has warned people that Coronavirus will be around for a longer period than estimated. The populations will have to learn to live with it.

Dr. Michael Ryan- WHO’s emergencies director said in a press briefing on Wednesday, “This virus may never go away.” The population might take a long time to build up sufficient immunity against it, if the vaccine isn’t made on time.

“I think it’s important to put this on the table,” he said. “This virus may become just another endemic virus in our communities”, he added. It would be like diseases such as HIV that never disappeared however effective treatments have been developed to treat it.

Michael also said that the vaccine once developed would require efforts to produce large quantities to cater to the huge population around the world. There would be challenges in the distribution as well.

Many countries have begun easing restrictions however there is no guarantee that there would not be another round of infections warned WHO.

Ryan also condemned attacks on healthcare workers around the world. He elaborated that there were 35 “quite serious” cases in the month of April alone in 11 countries.

“COVID-19 is bringing out the best in us, but it's also bringing out some of the worst,” he said.

“People feel empowered to take out their frustrations on individuals who are purely trying to help”, he added.

The virus that broke out in Wuhan, China last year has infected more than 4.2 million people and killed 300,000 people across the world.
