Cry for Justice: Tanushree Dutta Seeks Urgent Help Amid Continued Harassment
Tanushree Dutta, a prominent voice of India’s #MeToo movement, released an emotional video pleading for help, alleging years of relentless harassment and health decline, and requesting immediate police support.
New Delhi: Tanusree Dutta, a trailblazer of the 2018 #MeToo uprising in Bollywood, recently posted a heart-wrenching video on Instagram that has raised concerns across social platforms. The actor is seen sobbing uncontrollably, pleading for assistance, as she described being persistently harassed in her home over the past four to five years. In the emotionally charged video, Tanushree called for police intervention, revealing her growing sense of helplessness and vulnerability.
In the video, Tanushree shares, "Guys, I'm being harassed in my own home. I just called the cops. I got worried and called the police. The police came. They asked me to come to the police station to launch a proper complaint. I'm probably going tomorrow or the day after. I'm not well. I've been harassed so much in the last 4-5 years that my health has deteriorated."
She went on to reveal her living conditions, noting that she struggles with everyday tasks and cannot employ domestic help. "I'm not able to do any work. My house is a mess. I can't hire even maids because they planted maids in my house. I had such a bad experience with maids coming in and stealing and doing all kinds of things. I have to do all my work. People come outside my door... I'm being troubled in my own house," she added, with her voice quivering in anguish.
Her Instagram caption read: "I'm sick and tired of this harassment!! It's been going on since 2018 #MeToo. Aaj fed up hokar maine police ko call kiya. Please, someone help me! Do something before it's too late."
Tanusree had earlier made headlines when she accused actor Nana Patekar of inappropriate behaviour during a film shoot in 2008. Patekar, however, dismissed the allegations. In October 2018, her legal counsel, Nitin Satpute, submitted a plea to Mumbai’s Oshiwara police, requesting that Nana Patekar, along with Ganesh Acharya, Samee Siddiqui, and Rakesh Sarang, undergo narco-analysis, brain mapping, and polygraph tests.
Despite the high-profile nature of the case, the police eventually cleared Nana Patekar in 2019, stating in a B-Summary report that her complaint may have been “malicious” and “out of revenge.”
Her sister, Ishita Dutta, also an actor, earlier told IANS that police involvement had prevented potential physical harm to Tanushree in 2008. Recalling a disturbing moment, she stated that had the police not intervened promptly, the damage to Tanushree’s vehicle during a mob attack could have been far worse.
Tanushree, who earned fame with films like Aashiq Banaya Apne, Bhagam Bhag, and Dhol, also won the Femina Miss India Universe title in 2004. Today, she stands as a symbol of resilience, though her current plight paints a picture of distress, pleading for empathy and action.
