Delhi Girls Took to Street Dance in Support of the Abandoned Elderly

Young girls from the Dance Society of Lady Shri Ram College danced to the tunes of the yesteryears to raise awareness and spread information on the current situation of the abandoned poor and elderly in and around Delhi and NCR and the need to give them the love and respect they deserve. The event to increase support for elderly care was organized by Wishes and Blessings, a Delhi based NGO, which organized the flash mob in partnership with Lady Shri Ram College.

Held in Select City Walk Mall, Saket, recently, the performers danced to the popular retro Hindi music. It transported the audience to the past and made them think of the elderly. In the same spirit, the founder of Wishes and Blessings, Geetanjali Chopra, announced the organization’s fourth pop-up exhibition: WB ACT 4. The pop-up is an annual event to raise funds for charity. Funds from the last three pop-ups have facilitated the construction of a classroom, mass weddings for 14 girls and the construction of an old age home- ‘Mann Ka Tilak’.

Funds from Act 4 will go towards the monthly running cost of Mann Ka Tilak and the initial costs of setting up an old age home for men, she informed. WB ACT 4 is guaranteed to be a unique shopping experience with up-and-coming designers exhibiting their unique collections. The pop up is a specially curated event and is a fun way to contribute to a good cause. Come to Royal Park, GK II on the 13th of September to spread smiles and make dreams come true!

Wishes and Blessings is a registered NGO based in Delhi. Set up under the aegis of Dr. Geetanjali Chopra in 2014, the organization cuts across the spectrum of gender and age to help those who need it. The NGO is a unique platform to connect donors and beneficiaries, to bring together those who are blessed to help those who have unfulfilled wishes. They believe that happiness is not just an end, but a means to an end as well, and therefore do not have one focus area but 9 causes among which are skill development, infrastructure, education and hygienic food.

Currently, their focus area is the poor and elderly of Delhi/NCR. They are doing their part to counter this problem by building their first old age home. Mann Ka Tilak, the home was opened in April 2018 and aims to give the elderly the respect and dignity of life they deserve. This is part of their long-term project to build a chain of old age homes across India.
