Delhi Police Arrest Mayank Singhvi, Husband of Deceased Air Hostess Who Jumped off a Terrace

Mayank Singhvi the husband of Anissia Batra an Air hostess has been arrested. He is expected to be presented before the Magistrate on Tuesday. Details below.

The Air Hostess worked with a German Airlines and she’s believed to have jumped off the terrace of her home in Panchsheel Park on Friday. According to her family, Anissia was tortured both physically and mentally by her husband and her husband’s family for dowry. On June 27, Anissia’s father, a retired major general of the Indian Army filed a complaint at the Hauz Khas police station being concerned about his daughter’s life. "If she is physically harmed, her husband and his parents should be held responsible," Major Gen (Retd) RS Batra had written in his complaint.

Anissia’s parents claim that she was being tortured for years and when she returned from her honeymoon, she had marks in her body. Due to the family’s claim that Anissia was murdered, a second post-mortem was conducted yesterday and the procedure was video graphed.

The Air hostess’ brother Karan Batra claimed that Singhvi assaulted her on several occasions. “He even hit our mother once,” Karan Batra said. “My parents temporarily moved to Delhi from Chandigarh for her. They had to leave on June 27 for a medical emergency and filed the police complaint [before leaving].”

He also claimed that the police locked his sister’s apartment on Friday after she passed away; allegedly his brother-in-law visited her apartment on Sunday night and removed all the evidence. According to Karan Batra, his sister sent a series of messages before she died. She was locked in a room by Singhvi. She messaged “Because of him my life is going to go, please don't leave him.” Karan Batra stated that he was not sure if his sister jumped or if she was pushed from the terrace but they are trying their best to get the accused arrested.

Mayank Singhvi has a different version to the story though. He said that he received a text from his wife in which she threatened to kill herself. Apparently, he ran to the terrace as he was at home but by the time he reached the terrace she had already jumped. He rushed her to the hospital but she was declared dead. NDTV reported that the police have taken hold of Mayank Singhvi’s luxury car, Anissia’s diamond ring, and their mobile phones. All important articles that would be essential for investigation have been picked up by the forensic team. The events that led to Anissia’s death would also be reconstructed, the Police stated.
