Despite Strong Opening in the Weekend, War 2 Faces Sharp Decline on Monday

Despite Strong Opening in the Weekend, War 2 Faces Sharp Decline on Monday

War 2, the highly anticipated action thriller starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR, has witnessed a steep decline in its box office performance after a strong opening weekend. Directed by Ayan Mukerji and produced by Aditya Chopra under the Yash Raj Films banner, the film was expected to be a major commercial hit but has so far fallen short of expectations.

After earning an impressive ₹174.75 crore net during its four-day opening weekend, War 2 saw a significant dip on its first Monday. The film, which collected ₹32.15 crore on Sunday, managed just ₹8.50 crore on Monday; a sharp decline of nearly 76%, raising concerns about its long-term performance.

Despite facing stiff competition from Rajinikanth’s Coolie, War 2 was expected to dominate the Independence Day weekend box office thanks to its high-profile cast and its placement within the expanding YRF Spy Universe. However, both films have underperformed compared to initial projections.

Internationally, the film is performing relatively better. It has crossed ₹200 crore worldwide, supported by overseas markets and strong initial buzz. Yet, this success abroad has not been enough to offset the domestic slowdown.

Marking the first-ever collaboration between Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR, War 2 also stars Kiara Advani in a key role. Despite its powerful ensemble, high production values, and lavish action sequences, the film’s lukewarm audience response and sharp weekday drop indicate that even star power may not be enough to sustain momentum in a competitive box office environment.

In the coming days, it remains to be seen whether War 2 can bounce back from its early-week decline or keep losing ground amid growing competition.
