Dev Patel Being Applauded for Stopping a Violent Fight in Australia

Actor Dev Patel is creating headlines for intervening and de-escalating a violent fight between a man and a woman in Adelaide, Australia.

Reports suggest that the woman had a knife. The couple began fighting in the street at around 8:45 pm on August 1st and then continued fighting inside a nearby service station as per a statement from South Australia Police.

Despite people attempting to stop the fight, the woman stabbed the man in the chest.

Dev Patel witnessed the fight when it had already escalated.

According to a statement provided to CNN “Dev acted on his natural instinct to try and de-escalate the situation and break up the fight.”

“The group was thankfully successful in doing so and they remained on site to ensure that the police and eventually the ambulance arrived. There are no heroes in this situation and sadly this specific incident highlights a larger systemic issue of marginalized members of society not being treated with the dignity and respect they deserve.”

It was truly commendable of a popular celebrity like Dev Patel to intervene and handle the situation with maturity  instead of turning a blind-eye to the unfortunate event.

The police have arrested the 34-year-old woman and she has been charged with aggravated assault causing harm.

The 32-year-old man was treated on the scene and was later taken to Royal Adelaide Hospital although he had non life threatening wounds.

Patel's representatives added: "The hope is that the same level of media attention this story is receiving (solely because Dev, as a famous person, was involved) can be a catalyst for lawmakers to be compassionate in determining long-term solutions to help not only the individuals who were involved but the community at large."
