Doctor Pleads Guilty in Matthew Perry’s Drug Overdose Case

One of the doctors, Dr Mark Chavez, who was charged in the drug overdose case of ‘Friends’ star Matthew Perry, pleaded guilty in a Los Angeles court on Wednesday.

He could face up to ten years in prison. He stood in court and answered dozens of questions from Judge Sherilyn Peace Garnett.

Another physician, Dr Salvador Plasencia, and Jasveen Sangha dubbed as the ‘Ketamine Queen’, have pleaded not guilty. This pair will go on trial in the month of March. Jasveen Sangha is said to be an illicit supplier of the drug.

They are serious conspirators and are believed to have played significant roles in the death of the ‘Friends’ star. They provided him with the drug despite knowing his medical history.

Authorities said Dr Chavez sold Ketamine lozenges to Dr. Salvador Plasencia, who in turn sold the drug to Perry. Perry's live-in personal assistant, Kenneth Iwamasa, admitted to injecting Perry with the lethal drug.

There were exchanges of text messages between both the doctors which demonstrated their dangerous intentions.

Matthew Perry was found dead in his Jacuzzi in October 2023. High concentration of Ketamine was found in his system at the time of his death. He was 54. Initial investigations ruled out the cause of death as accidental drowning.

Matthew Perry struggled with substance abuse for years, and he sought Ketamine Therapy for his condition. His dependency on the drug forced him to seek illicit sources that ultimately led to his death.

Dr Mark Chavez has surrendered his passport and accepted to give up his medical licence as part of the plea agreement. He has pleaded guilty to a lesser charge in exchange for cooperating in the ongoing investigation. “He has accepted responsibility. He is cooperating,” his attorney stated in court.
