Donald Trump Criticizes the Selection of 'Parasite'

US President Donald Trump has recently scorned the South Korean film 'Parasite', which has received the best picture award in Oscar this year. It also made history by becoming the first foreign language to receive the top award in the Oscars. Trump questioned the organizers asking how a foreign language movie could get the honor.

During an election campaign rally in Colorado Springs in Colorado recently, US President Donald Trump asked the crowd, "How bad was the Academy Awards this year?". He then asked in disbelief, "We got enough problems with South Korea, with trade. On top of it, they give them the best movie of the year?".

'Parasite', the film is a dark comedy that explores the class divides in Korean society. The film made history by becoming the first non-English-language film to win Hollywood's and the world's biggest annual award.

Trump is also heard saying "was it good? I don't know," this also indicates that he had not watched the film.

Meanwhile, the US distributor of the film Neon has reacted to the US President's comments on Twitter, saying his dislike for the subtitled film is "Understandable, as he can't read."

Donald Trump, whose nationalist campaign during the US election has become the very basis of the US Presidency and who has coined the slogan "America first", said that it is the right time to bring back classics from the golden age of Hollywood.

As he said, "Let's get 'Gone With the Wind.' Can we get 'Gone With the Wind' back please? 'Sunset Boulevard?'"

Donald Trump also took a chance to joke at Brad Pitt, who won the Best Supporting Actor Award in Oscar this year, calling him "a little wiseguy." Brad Pitt in his award acceptance speech this year, showed his support to the impeachment of Trump.

Apart from the best picture award, “Parasite” historic victory also marked four other awards for the film at the 92nd Academy Awards this year, which has involved humor, suspense, anguish in the story, which is deeply rooted in the socioeconomic, divide between two families set in Korean society.

In the history of Oscar, it was for the first time that a foreign-language film has been selected for the best picture. The film also won awards for best international feature film, best screenplay and best director award for the filmmaker Bong Joon Ho. The South Korean thriller has six nominations in the Oscar this year.
