As per Nobel award ceremony guidelines, the gentlemen attending the function are supposed to wear white tie and tails and women must don evening gowns. However, the ceremony makes an exception for the awardees by having them choose from their traditional outfits. While the Nobel ceremony is quite strict regarding its formal dress code, this exception is welcomed with open arms by the neo laureate couple.
In fact, Abhijit Banerjee and Esther Duflo make the fourth couple to achieve this eminent honour. Also, Banerjee became the third Indian-Bengali to receive Nobel after Rabindranath Tagore(1913) and Amartya Sen(1998).
