Elio: A Cosmic Journey of Discovery and Adventure

Mumbai: The trailer for the highly anticipated animated film Elio has been revealed, offering a glimpse into an extraordinary intergalactic adventure. The story revolves around an 11-year-old boy named Elio, whose greatest wish is to be abducted by extraterrestrials. His journey takes an unexpected turn when he finds himself in the company of his Olga (Voiced by Zoe Saldana) and his first alien friend, Gordon (voiced by Remy Edgerly).

Yonas Kibreab lends his voice to the titular character, portraying a young dreamer who embarks on a breathtaking voyage across the cosmos. As he travels millions of miles from Earth, he encounters various otherworldly beings who might just help him understand where he truly belongs.

Elio is a curious and imaginative boy with an unwavering fascination for space. His life takes a dramatic shift when he is accidentally transported to the Communiverse, an interstellar organization. Comprising representatives from galaxies across the universe. Mistaken for Earth’s supreme leader, Elio must forge new alliances with quirky alien species, tackle unforeseen cosmic dilemmas, and ultimately uncover his identity and purpose.

Directed by Madeline Sharafian (Burrow), Domee Shi (Bao, Turning Red), and Adrian Molina (co-writer/co-director of Coco), the film is produced by Mary Alice Drumm (associate producer of Coco). The voice cast also includes Brad Garrett as Lord Grigon and Jameela Jamil as Ambassador Questa, adding depth to the film's diverse characters.

A Disney-Pixar production, Elio is scheduled for a theatrical release on Jun 20, 2025. The latest trailer introduces a notably different tone compared to its original version, featuring reimagined key scenes that hint at a revised narrative approach. While the extent of these changes remains uncertain, the transformation is substantial, promising an even more captivating experience for audiences.

In a separate development, Zoe Saldana has recently been honored with the Best Supporting Actress award for her role in Emilia Perez. This film is inspired by Audiard’s opera libretto of the same title, which he adapted loosely from a chapter of the 2018 novel Ecoute by French author Boris Razon.

Emilia Perez follows the journey of a notorious Mexican cartel (played by Karla Sofía Gascón), who seeks to disappear and undergo a gender transition with the assistance of a lawyer. The film delves into themes of identity, transformation, and redemption, offering a powerful and unconventional narrative.

With Elio set to deliver an exhilarating cosmic escapade and Emilia Perez making waves in the film industry, both projects stand as testaments to the ever-evolving world of cinema.
