Elton Defends Friend Lady Gaga against Madonna in His Memoir -ME

Elton John has said it all in his autobiography-ME. The book has a lot to reveal. It may also open up old wounds and ignite the fire between old enemies. In his memoir, he had some not so nice things to say about Madonna. He called her ‘nasty’ for ‘ungracious’ for commenting on Lady Gaga’s song “Born this way”. Madonna had compared the song to her own “Express yourself” and John felt it was not in good taste. He felt that even though the song was quite similar, Madonna should have taken it as a compliment and not gone off rattling about the similarities and criticising it. 

In the book, he mentions ‘I used to make fun of [Madonna] for lip-syncing on stage, but the problem really started when she ran Gaga down on an American chat show’.

He goes on to explain his view stating that -‘I got that Gaga’s single “Born This Way” definitely sounded similar to Express Yourself, but I couldn’t see why she was so ungracious and nasty about it, rather than taking it as a compliment… particularly when she claims to be a champion for women.

He added- ‘I think it’s just wrong — an established artist shouldn’t kick down a younger artist right at the start of their career.’

Elton John took the criticism about Gaga badly because she's his friend and also the godmother to his two kids.

 This incident which took place in 2012 had strained the relationship between Elton and Madonna. Things seem to have been sorted out between Madonna and Gaga though as earlier this year they had presented an award together at an Oscars after-party. 

In 2016, Elton and the Queen of pop buried their differences when both of them happened to be in the same restaurant and Elton invited her over for a meal.

Could the memoir bring back ugly memories and create trouble again between the two? Who knows? It may seem difficult for Elton to get back into the good books of Madonna though because his autobiography revealed many more stories that could rub her the wrong way. And if we know Madonna, she may hit back.
