Erin Langworthy Falls into Crocodile Infested River after Bungee Cord Suddenly Snaps

Numerous adventurous youngsters have tried Bungee Jumping and it has become quite a popular adventure sport in India. 

The person jumps from a high cliff, bridge, or platform. Once the person jumps the cord stretches and the person flies upwards again as the cord recoils. The person oscillates until he finally stops moving. 

All precautions are generally taken, however, sometimes things can go wrong as happened in Erin Langworthy’s case. The incident dates back to 2012. 

Erin Langworthy who was in her twenties bungee jumped in Zambia over the Zambezi river, South Africa. She was a bit nervous before trying the act however she thought she’d give it a go after witnessing others successfully completing their attempts. 

She jumped and while she was midway the bungee cord snapped and she plummeted 360 feet into the river which was infested with crocodiles. 

Friends and bystanders stood above completely shocked at the turn of events. 

Erin opened her eyes underwater. She could see brown bubbles. She described the feeling as being in a washing machine. The fast-flowing currents were dragging her battered body away. While she was a metre below the surface,  the cord around her leg got stuck. 

“I could see the surface but I couldn’t get there”, she said. 

Erin decided that she was not going to die on that day. Still under water, she went back and removed the cord and freed herself. Someone from the Bungee jumping company managed to get her out.

She began coughing blood and her body was black and blue.

She was later airlifted from Zimbabwe. 

Her lungs were full of blood and water. “I felt exhausted and struggled to process what had happened”, she told Guardian. Her lungs had partially collapsed. 

Ironically Erin joked about her death with her mom a day before. 

Despite experiencing such a dangerous fall, Erin survived to tell her story. 

When asked whether she would Bungee Jump once again she laughs and replies that she may try it sometime later although she’s not sure.
