FIR Lodged Against the Makers of ‘Tandav’ for Hurting Religious Sentiments

An FIR has been registered late on Sunday night against the creators of ‘Tandav’ for inciting religious enmity. The complaint has been filed at Lucknow’s Hazratganj police station by a sub- inspector who is posted in the same station.

The complaint further states that the content of the web series seems to incite caste conflicts, disrespect to women and the character of the person occupying the highest position i.e., the Prime Minister has been shown in an indecent manner.

BJP party leader Ram Kadam had filed a separate complaint against the series at Mumbai’s Ghatkopar Police station. BJP MP Manoj Kotak also wrote to Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar requesting a ban on the series for hurting religious sentiments.

The FIR has been specifically filed against the director Ali Abbas Zafar and Gaurav Solanki the writer of ‘Tandav’ as well as Amazon’s head of India Original Content for ridiculing Hindu gods and goddesses.

After the case was registered in Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath’s media adviser Shalabh Mani Tripathi shared a copy of the FIR on Twitter coupled with these words: “There is no tolerance for playing with people's sentiments in Yogi Adityanath's Uttar Pradesh. A serious case has been registered against the entire team of Tandav, which is spreading hate in the guise of cheap web series. Prepare for arrest.”

The Information and Broadcasting Ministry has summoned the Amazon Prime Video officials after the controversy broke out. The Amazon Prime Video PR said that they “won’t be responding” on the matter as of now.
