Football Legend Pele is Undergoing Urinary Infection Treatment in Paris
The 78-year-old Brazilian player is receiving antibiotics at the hospital so that he can be discharged early that will allow him to fly back to his home country.
Football legend Pele is admitted in a hospital in Paris after he complained urinary problem. Later it was detected he is suffering from a ‘urinary infection’ but is ‘doing well’, members of his entourage informed.
The 78-year-old Brazilian player is receiving antibiotics at the hospital so that he can be discharged early that will allow him to fly back to his home country. His spokesperson said the infection is ‘under control’ and three times World Cup winner would be discharged from hospital in ‘a day or two’.
Pele, who won the World Cup in 1958, 1962 and 1970, is in Paris for a promotional appearance alongside France star Kylian Mbappe. In recent times, the declining health of the player has been a cause for concern for everyone. The planned meeting with Mbappe was also postponed last November.
Earlier Pele had been admitted, when his condition deteriorated while lighting the flame at the opening ceremony of the 2016 Rio Olympics. He also spent time in intensive care in Brazil in late 2014 following a kidney complaint. At that time he also joked, “I wasn’t afraid of dying as I am a man with three hearts”.
In Paris, the man who was named FIFA’s player of the 20th century spent the day entirety with Mbappe sitting, but appeared on good form at the event organised by watch manufacturer Hublot.
Last year Mbappe became the only second teenager to score in a World Cup final, when he registered 4-2 victory over Croatia in France following in Pele’s footsteps.
Pele achieved the feat when he was just 17-year-old in 1958 and claims to have scored more than 1,000 goals in his career, during which he starred both at the club level for Santos and later shone bright in the New York Cosmos.
When asked if Paris Saint-Germain superstar Mbappe, now 20, could also reach that milestone, Pele said, “It is possible, I scored exactly 1,025, so 1,000 goals is possible for him”.
Pele also told Mbappe, that the key to smashing goal scoring records is playing in the very best teams. He said, “People tend to say that goals are the most important thing - I thank God for having scored so many in my career - but we must know that we need to be well-supported, you can’t score on your own, you need good teammates, that’s very important”.
