Sherika De Armas, the contestant who proudly represented Uruguay in the Miss World competition, has sadly lost her life following a courageous fight against cervical cancer.

Sherika De Armas, who represented Uruguay in the Miss World competition has passed away after a long battle with cervical cancer. She was only 26. 

According to local reports she passed away last week. 

Friends and family paid their tributes to the brunette beauty queen who inspired many. 

“Fly high, little sister. Always and forever,” her brother, Mayk’ De Armas, said on social media.

The current Miss Uruguay Carla Romero mourned the death of Sherika De Armas. Describing Sherika, Carla said that she was“too evolved for this world. One of the most beautiful women I have ever met in my life.”

“I will always remember you, not only for all the support you gave me and how much you wanted to see me grow, but for your affection, your joy, the friends we shared and that remain with me today”, Lola de los Santos, Miss Uruguay 2021, said while paying tribute.

Sherika liked all things related to fashion and always wanted to be a model, be it in advertising or on the ramp. 

Off the runway she sold makeup, hair products and personal care through the Shey De Armas beauty studio. 

She devoted her time to her childhood cancer organisation Pérez Scremini Foundation.

Cervical cancer is the fourth most common cancer in women according to the World Health Organization’s website. 99% of cervical cancer cases are linked to infection with high-risk human papillomaviruses (HPV). It is transmitted through sexual contact. 

Cervical cancer is a treatable disease as long as it is detected early. In case of late detection it can be managed effectively by appropriate treatment.
