Frozen Cat Survives after Being Found in a Snow Bank in Montana
The cat became popular as the frozen cat. The owners then brought the cat in an animal clinic as it was unresponsive and its body temperature did not even register on the thermometer when the vet in the clinic tried to revive the cat.
Animal lovers and veterinarians in Montana have successfully revived a cat named Fluffy that had nearly frozen to death after being found covered from head to tail in ice and snow inside a snow bank in Montana.
The cat became popular as the frozen cat. The owners then brought the cat in an animal clinic as it was unresponsive and its body temperature did not even register on the thermometer when the vet in the clinic tried to revive the cat.
When the staffs at Animal Clinic of Kalispell started to remove ice off Fluffy’s coat, it started to move. They then sent it to the emergency ward to help raise its body temperature. In the emergency ward towels, intravenous fluids and cage warmers were used to warm the cat.
Dr Jevon Clark at the Animal Clinic of Kalispell said Fluffy is normally a little crabby, so when it began growling after about an hour, he knew it would be fine. As “These crabby cats are survivors” added Dr Clark.
The cat was discharged on the same night and handed over to its owners. After a day, when Dr Clark checked the cat, Fluffy is back to normal. The clinic also posted the pictures of the celebrity cat’s recovery on its Facebook page.
As the story goes, it so happened, when the owners of the cat came home last Thursday, they found the cat has been crusted onto a hard packed snow bank, as if it had been sitting in a single spot for a long time, while the blowing snow drifted up around it making it froze. Veterinarians believe that something traumatic could have forced Fluffy to sit at a single place for a long time in spite of heavy snowfall.
Dr Clark said, “She [was] crouched down looking like she’s hunting something or something’s in the snow bank. And then they realised oh my gosh, she’s not moving”. He also added, “either something fell on her or she fell or something chased her and she got injured … [and] she couldn’t get back to her normal little hiding spots that she goes to”.
It was not clear how long the cat had been there as the owners were out for days and the temperature that afternoon was below freezing. Fluffy is a three years old cat and had always lived outdoors. The cat was living outside the house for years, when the owners moved into the house two years back they adopted the cat. Fluffy’s owners now plan to keep the cat inside for a while.
