Garbage Crisis in Oshiwara: A Resident’s Plea for Cleanliness and Accountability

A concerned Mumbai resident recently turned to Reddit to shed light on the appalling sanitation issues plaguing Oshiwara, particularly in the Behraum Baug area. The user posted a series of stark photos depicting overflowing roadside garbage dumps and called out both civic authorities and fellow citizens for their indifference. The post quickly gained traction, sparking outrage and debate online.

“This is what our roads have come to – piles of garbage, zero accountability,” the user lamented, attaching disturbing visuals of food waste, plastic packaging, and construction debris strewn along road dividers and walkways. In a passionate outcry, they wrote, “I’m writing this out of genuine concern and frustration.”

The user highlighted that these waste piles were not just unsightly but also a menace, especially with the monsoon approaching. The decomposing waste has reportedly become a breeding ground for disease-carrying mosquitoes and rodents, emitting a stench that makes daily life intolerable. The resident questioned whether the municipal corporation was even aware of the issue and whether any inspections or monitoring were being conducted regularly.

“Are there no dustbins, or is this just sheer apathy? It is 2025, and till when are we planning to struggle with the basics of roads and a proper waste management system,” the Redditor asked, pointing to the lack of basic urban infrastructure in one of the city’s key residential areas.

In a refreshing moment of introspection, the user also turned the spotlight on fellow citizens, saying, “People in the area are responsible for their carelessness. Is it so hard to carry garbage a little further to a bin, or wait for collection services?” The post concluded with a legitimate request for a proper grievance redressal mechanism to report and resolve such recurring sanitation issues.
