Ghazal Singer Bhupinder Singh Passes Away at 82

Famous Ghazal singer Bhupinder Singh died on Monday at a hospital in Mumbai. He died of suspected colon cancer and covid -19 complications. He was 82. 

According to his wife Mitali Singh who is a popular artist herself, Mr Bhupinder Singh was admitted to the hospital after Urine infection. He was later diagnosed with Covid-19. 

“He was admitted to the hospital eight to ten days ago as he had some infection in the urine. After tests were performed, he tested positive for COVID-19. He passed away at around 7.45 pm due to suspected colon cancer and had COVID-19,” Mitali lSingh told PTI.

Bhupinder Singh began his career with All India Radio as a singer and musician. He was spotted by Madan Mohan in one of the All India Radio events and was called to Mumbai. 

The ghazal singer  made his Bollywood debut with Chetan Anand’s ‘Haqeeqat.’ He sang a track composed by Mohan called “Hoke Majboor Mujhe Usne Bulaya Hoga '' along with Mohammed Rafi, Talat Mahmood and Manna Dey.

He sang solo for the film ‘Aakhri Khat.’ 

The artist introduced the Spanish guitar, bass and drums to his ghazals. He even wrote lyrics and his voice is considered most unique in playback singing. 

The iconic singer was well known for songs such as "Do Diwane Shehar Mein", "Ek Akela is Shehar Mein", "Thodi Si Zameen Thoda Aasman", "Duniya Chhute Yaar Na Chhute" and "Karoge Yaad Toh" and so on. 

The music fraternity is mourning the loss of Bhupinder Singh and many celebrities such as Ajay Devgn, Vishal Dadlani, and Shekhar Suman expressed their sadness after hearing about his sudden demise.

Bhupinder Singh is survived by his Indian-Bangladeshi wife and a son.
