God Woman in Uttar Pradesh Refuses to Stop Religious Ceremony amid the Coronavirus Crisis

The death toll due to Covid 19 has reached 13. The police are working to tackle violators who are not taking the lockdown seriously and they are clearly having a tough time battling with the locals in some parts of India.

God Woman in Uttar Pradesh Refuses to Stop Religious Ceremony amid the Coronavirus Crisis

A woman clad in a red silk saree refused to end a religious gathering in her home at Mehda Purva in Uttar Pradesh’s Deoria district.

Around 100 people had come to her home for the religious ceremony, some from Bihar, thus defying Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 21-day lockdown order.

“Try and remove me”, she angrily said while pointing the sword towards the policemen. The self-professed “god-woman” who calls herself “Maa Aadi Shakti” (Mother of divine power) refused to follow the police’s instructions thereby creating a ruckus for about an hour.

She ignored all the protocols of social distancing at a time when the number of Coronavirus cases has plunged to 649 cases thereby risking the lives of others. The whole ordeal was recorded on a phone camera.

Fortunately, someone tipped off the police and they appeared in two trucks. A cop announced on the loudspeaker, “We will file a case against you and your followers. This is your last chance. Stop this gathering. All of you go home or we will take strict action.”

Finally, the cops were able to grab the woman and pin her down after a scuffle with the crowd. The cops were seen having a tough time handling the undisciplined crowd and they finally resorted to hitting the members with their lathis. The ordeal ended with the “god-woman” being dragged away.

Incidents like these indicate the ignorance of people concerning the seriousness of the Covid-19 pandemic in many parts of India.

Despite the authorities reiterating not to step out of their homes unnecessarily, there are hundreds of people who are blatantly ignoring the rules. They are not only putting others but also their own families at risk which means that they haven’t understood the functioning of the virus.

As of today, the death toll due to Covid 19 has reached 13. The police forces are working round the clock to tackle violators who are not taking the lockdown seriously and they are clearly having a tough time battling with the locals in some parts of India.
