Google Gemini App Refreshes Design with Subtle but Smart Changes

Google has introduced a fresh update to the Gemini app, refining its interface with subtle yet noticeable quality-of-life improvements. The most striking enhancement is the redesigned prompt box, which has been reimagined for both functionality and visual elegance.

Earlier, users were accustomed to a plain rectangular input bar where they typed queries, instructions, or conversational notes. With the latest design shift, the prompt bar has transformed into an open-box style. It features a top lid that slightly curves at the edges, resembling a rounded rectangle, but with no sides or bottom. This approach not only saves screen real estate but also allows users to fit additional characters on the same line, making typing feel more spacious and fluid.

First highlighted by 9to5Google, the redesign is currently live on Android devices, with an iOS rollout expected soon. The new structure appears to be aimed at maximizing negative space, while simultaneously giving users a broader canvas for text. Another element receiving a facelift is the tools icon. Previously displayed as a simple “+” sign, it acted as a gateway to features like image generation, video generation (exclusive for premium subscribers), Deep Research, and Canvas. Now, Gemini introduces a more intuitive layout: the most frequently used tool shows us as a separate chip or button, while less-accessed functions are tucked under an ellipsis (three horizontal dots). This granular organization brings clarity and efficiency, ensuring users can access core functions without unnecessary clutter.

Interestingly, Google has also relocated a familiar disclaimer. Earlier, the app displayed “Gemini can make mistakes, so double-check it” right beneath the prompt bar. This cautionary message was designed to remind users about potential AI hallucinations and encourage them to verify responses. In the updated interface, the disclaimer has been shifted beneath the AI’s generated answer, appearing just below the like, dislike, feedback, and share buttons. By repositioning it, Google seems to have reduced distraction during typing while still maintaining transparency.
