In less than six hours, after launching a new Instagram account, Prince Harry and his wife Meghan broke the record by reaching one million followers; a milestone that Guinness World Records said was reached in record time. The couple is expecting their first baby in the coming weeks.

The Instagram account, which was launched on Tuesday, is named ‘Sussex Royal’. Initially, it was only a post featuring a monogram symbol with their names. The post alone has attracted more than 960,000 likes for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

Later on, the couple posted some photographs and wrote, “Welcome to our official Instagram; we look forward to sharing the work that drives us, the causes we support, important announcements, and the opportunity to shine a light on key issues. We thank you for your support, and welcome you to @sussexroyal. - Harry & Meghan”.

In their first photos, Harry and Meghan shared some pictures mainly from their travels recently. In a picture the pregnant Duchess is seen hanging out with children, hugging two women and holding another woman’s hand. Whereas, Prince Harry is seen greeting soldiers and helping men move on an elephant.

The last image was a black and white picture of the Duke and Duchess from behind. The picture was taken during their trip to Fiji, which they visited on their first royal tour.

In addition to the world record, Harry and Meghan’s arrival on Instagram has also delighted fellow royal family member Princess Eugenie. The daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson took the social media platform to share a picture from Prince Harry and Meghan’s engagement shoot. She also wrote, “Welcome cousins”.

According to Journalist Benjamin Wareing, the rush of activity on Instagram has also led the platform to a momentarily crash. Since breaking the world record, the account has already cross double in size, with 2.6 million total followers.

The Royals have broken the record of the South Korean pop singer Kang Daniel, who has achieved more than one million followers in 11 hours, 36 minutes. The record before him was held by Pope Francis, who has reached the one million mark in just 12 hours after launching his channel ‘franciscus’ in the year 2016.

Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle who was a former actress and has starred in the hit US television show like ‘Suits’ has deleted all her personal social media accounts ahead of her marriage to Prince Harry in May 2018.
