Here’s Why Ayushman Khurrana is called the ‘Master of Offbeat Roles’

Ayushman Khurrana entered Bollywood with Shoojit Sircar’s ‘Vicky Donor’ and then there was no looking back for the newcomer. ‘Vicky Donor’ proved to be a commercial success. Through his choice of offbeat roles, the actor has come to define himself as a risk-taker.

Khurrana has experimented with his choice of roles and has taken up projects that many would’ve considered taboo. His first movie revolved around the subject of artificial insemination. Though the budget of the film was Rs. 5 crores it went on to make a profit of Rs. 65 crores.

His film Article 15 based on the constitution of India revolves around multiple events such as the 2014 Badaun gang-rape allegations and the Una flogging incident in 2016. He plays the role of a police officer who is solving a police case. This was well received by the audience and it was the first time in his career that the actor played a dark and intense role.

The recently released ‘Bala’ gained immense fame for its choice of subject. It deals with the delicate subject of balding that many men find challenging to deal with. Many followers especially the menfolk could relate to the topic and connect with his character. Ayushman Khurrana stars as Bala who is suffering from alopecia, lacks confidence and struggles with societal pressures due to his condition.

The ‘Times of India’ gave the film 4 stars out of 5 and wrote, ‘Bala’ remains a light-hearted comedy with situations that are relatable. Just like the film’s message, ‘Bala’ is beautiful even with its flaws, and never fails to entertain.”

While many actors and newcomers play it safe, Ayushman confidently takes chances and this has really worked in his favour. Ayushman has garnered another fan and its none other than the ‘Khiladi’ actor- Akshay Kumar. Akshay Kumar also played the role of Bala which was a character in his movie ‘Housefull.’ He saw Ayushman’s ‘Bala’ and was all praise of the actor as well as the movie.

Ayushman was first discovered at the age of 17 in channel V’s reality show – ‘Popstars’ in 2002. Yes, it has undoubtedly been a roller coaster but an inspiring ride from ‘Vicky Donor’ to ‘Bala’ for the “master of offbeat roles.” The actor does inspire us to take chances in life!
