The new reality show on Netflix called the ‘Indian Matchmaking’ is creating waves among viewers in India and abroad. 

It is hosted by Sima Taparia whose prime job involves travelling even across seas to find the “perfect match” for her clients. 

She visits their homes and eventually learns about their lifestyle. She delves deep into their nature and personalities and discovers what the guy or girl desires in their partner. 

The next step involves connecting the prospective bride and groom, keeping in mind the common key points. So there is a lot of sweat and hard work that goes into this matchmaking process. Sima comes across as a very professional person. 

The icing on the cake is the prospective groom and bride get to meet in person and take things forward from there. There is scope to get to know each other, their backgrounds, likes, and dislikes.  

The show has received flak as it brings out some honest facts about Indian society such as classism and casteism. 

It reaffirms the notion that when an Indian guy and a gal get married, it is the union of their respective families and not them alone. Religion and family background is vital to a successful marriage. Even astrology and alignment of stars play a key role in bringing two souls together!

It also gives us an insight into what the Indian male and vice versa seeks in their soul mate. The criteria for a suitable partner comes across superficial many a times. For instance one guy seeks a bride typically like his mother. 

Ironically despite all the funny memes and criticism the show is attracting, its ranking is still high on the platform. Probably because it is entertaining, humorous and many Indian families can easily relate to these matchmaking moments because somewhere we’ve all been there and done that.
