How Indian Railway Tackled Passengers of Mahakumbh

The Mahakumbh Mela gained a spotlight after it started where plenty of devotees and pilgrims were seen visiting the mela. Mahakumbh 2025 is taking place after 144 years which many people might not get a chance to see. Above all, tackling the pilgrims and the passengers traveling to Prayagraj becomes an essential factor. While train and flight availability has reduced, many people are trying to barge into the reserved compartments of the train and taking over the seats of reserved passengers.

Many social media posts show the hustle and efforts of unreserved passengers trying to get to the train irrespective of their reservations and bookings. In addition, many passengers were seen breaking the doors and windows of special trains such as Rajdhani and Vande Bharat. Amid all the chaos, Indian railways are trying to ensure the safety and security of all passengers.

Recently in Madhubani Railway station, standing passengers pelted stones and broke windows of the AC coaches of Swantantra Senani traveling from Jaynagar to New Delhi. It is reported that the passengers were waiting at Madhubani Railway station to board the train. However, the train is reserved on bookings and the doors are not opened until a reserved passenger is to board the train.

Indian Railways is extremely trained in handling such situations. In the case of the Madhubani stone pelting incident, the RPF arrested two individuals right from the station who had pelted stones in the train. Apart from this, Indian Railways had added some more trains to Prayagraj from different high-demand sectors. These additional trains are said to ensure less congestion in the reserved trains. Moreover, RPF personnel are deployed in the stations near Prayagraj station so that the situation can be under control and the safety of the passengers can be given.

A helpline number has been shared with passengers who can report any form of issue or obtain help in case of an emergency. RPF is also de-boarding the unreserved passengers from superfast trains and coordinating the upcoming trains. RPF has been assigned to different trains so that the safety can be ensured. Some trains have been ordered to not stop for technical rest and the technical stop has been shifted to a remote location.

Crowd controlling is one of the most important responsibilities of the RPF and different authorities have been assigned to supervise the situation and monitor any possibility of risks.
