How to Focus on Own Personal Success

Although it’s a controversial opinion, given the current political climate – it's important to understand the ramifications of thinking like the 1%. They may appear to be capitalistic or greedy, but those that make the transition from rags to riches have a lot of lessons to teach us if you think about it. You don’t need to blame others or “the system” for your problems if you know that ‘the system’ doesn’t really exist to keep you down.

If you’re still not satisfied, you can create a balance between your inner capitalist and your outer hippie. You can take the best of both worlds without having to pick sides or choose one person forever. You can change it up when you need to but remember that you need to focus on your own personal success.

Don’t indulge in Self-Sabotage

One of the key areas where we often end up failing is self-sabotage. This is important to fully understand because we often come in our own ways and don’t take advantage of the opportunities that present themselves. We become shy and coy in these situations or don’t correctly read the room because we’re hell-bent on living life the easy way. When we can get out of our comfort zone and reach out towards our dreams, we can build the life that we want and travel around the world.

If we choose to not let our inner demons haunt us for the rest of our lives, we can focus on ‘the money’, and actually become happier in our lives. The 1% may not be completely satisfied by being Billionaires, but you can learn from their drive, commitment and work ethic.

You can emulate these traits and sacrifice your distractions to complete your goals. You also need to be ‘in the zone’ to be able to have peak performance, which only 1% of top performers, athletes and entrepreneurs actively engage in.

The importance of relationships and listening

When we really look at how the 1% got to where they are, its all because of their powerful connections and relationships. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, as we can all learn from the power of keeping good relationships in our circle. We need to keep a keen eye on what’s happening in the world, and our circle of friends and colleagues help us figure that out. We can also provide satisfaction in our lives by bringing to it, a sense of balance and trust. This happens when we truly understand the meaning of a business relationship.

Relationships that aren’t based on mutual benefit don’t last very long. This is the main principle that many at the top of the game pick up. If you want to understand why you remain unsuccessful after many attempts, its because of the fact that you aren’t connected to the right people.

When you attain success in a certain domain, more people want to work with you and connect you ahead. This is the power of self-confidence, that comes in when you are in positive business relationships.

The other aspect that’s key here is listening. Few entrepreneurs actually have strong listening skills, and they rely on their ability to dominate the room, instead of being the first one to listen.

This leads to conflict that can arise as a consequence of not listening, and it creates a stronger difference between two opinions. When someone is actively listening to your point of view, it doesn’t matter what they say – you are interested in hearing them back.

Dealing with uncertainty

The common thread that all 1%ers have is that they’re all entrepreneurs. This means that they have been through it all and have lived to tell tales that go for miles. This also means that they have a distinct power to deal with uncertainty. Dealing with uncertainty is a great way to understand who, what, and why are things happening the way they are.

Sometimes, you’re given a client or a project that you don’t really think works out in the beginning. Most 99%ers will give up and let go. The 1%ers will understand the weight of the uncertainty and look at a cost v/s reward calculation before going ahead.

They have a unique ability to deal with uncertainty and prefer a life where there are ups and downs, so that they can capitalize on situations when they present themselves. This trait of being able to ride the way is important when facing tough situations and problems that come up often.

Goal-setting and persistence

You can be humble and persistent when an opportunity arises. You can use the power of communication to be able to get your way, but you must be humble about it. That’s what most people at the top are good at. They understand when a good opportunity presents itself and are persistent to achieve it.

A goal once set, is set in stone. The ones at the top set goals for themselves frequently and try their level best to achieve it. You may think of them as corporate big wigs, who’re sitting there hogging up all the money, but you have to understand that they’re doing that because they’re goal-setters and are reaping the benefits of their strategy and business acumen.

Setting a goal in life is important as it clears things out for you. You no longer want to waste your time in doing things that aren’t productive, and you change the way that you think about the world in general. You switch towards being more growth-oriented and working harder than usual.

Conclusion

When you switch your mentality from being a victim of the times to being proactive and self-serving, you have a sense of balance to life. Otherwise you’re not going to be truly happy because something will be nagging you in the back of your mind. You won’t feel like it’s the right thing to do and start to focus on building up your life and your business.
