How to Make an Impression with Your Office Look

After the resume, the next thing that might create an impression is your look. Your recruiters will surely know about your achievements but that is not enough when you step in the office floor. The first day at the office, trust us when we say this, however good or bad you dress up, eyes will be at you. So, when you know that you will be the point of interest why not ace it like a pro.

Fashion experts say that often people deck up to the fullest on the very first day and then it just stops. The lack of enthusiasm and the fact that people already know you in the office makes you reluctant to pull up a smart office attire to the office and you end up wearing anything that comes in handy. The impression making does not end on the first day. The impression that is made on the first day must be maintained all through if you wish to stand out from the crowd and create an impact.

These days it is not just the work that proves your worth but the way you present yourself also matters equally. Your attire speaks about your confidence, making others rely on you when it comes to handling greater responsibilities. Being sartorial has its own benefits and you will get introduced to it as you start following some basic office couture tips.

Because smell is the best memory

Have you passed through a certain smell and instantly a face appeared in front of you? Yes! That’s the power of scent and it's time you have one too. Here the idea is not about using a strong fragrance that will linger even after you have left the place. The smell should be subtle yet telling about your personality. It is not necessary to wear highly expensive perfumes that will make a hole in your pocket to maintain an impression. Choose a not so common smell that will define your presence in the office. In a lift or in a conference room, when you enter with that smell, there is a subtle sign of dignity which people are going to admire. Needless to say, when you smell good it instantly boosts your confidence levels.

It’s in the eyes

Maintain eye contact. This is the golden rule that speaks about your confidence, determined nature, and attentiveness. At the office, you meet several kinds of people and interact with them. You can understand a person a lot more when you look at someone’s eyes and that's how you can apparently gauge how deep and engaging the conversation is going on. Usually, who are hiding something have the tendency to look distracted avoiding eye contact. Even if you are in a meeting with a group of people, make sure you take your turns to look straight into the eyes of each and every member from time to time and continue with your public speaking skills.

Work on your accessories

Office accessories include shoes, belts, cufflinks, ties and watches for men. The list for women is more or less the same with the addition of hair, nail color and other makeup essentials. For men, the look must focus on matching the shoe and belt color. Well fitted dress with a proper tie that compliments your shirt and trouser color. Do not go for fancy or sturdy watches. Keep it classy and never keep it dangling from your wrist. For women choose pastel and matte shades in dresses. Make sure the shoes, nail color or your hair tie is not blingy. Makeup should be minimal as you must not look like you are carrying your dressing table as you walk down the office bay. You will definitely not want any extra unprofessional attention for your dress up in the office. Both men and women should be careful about those pair of shoes. Get those perfect office pairs and get it polished every day before you hit the office. Too much flashy color is not recommended for both men and women. Choose comfortable fabrics that will make you feel comfortable all day. Experts say that comfort matched with elegance is the key to office attire.

Facial hair is generally a no

Men, you might get highly disappointed by this but facial hair is not a cool thing in office. In a study, it has been found out that employees sporting a beard are less likable and have lower approachable appearance than that of people without a beard. Beard is definitely in fashion these days and people are opting for several grooming products to maintain facial hair. In case, that beard is defining your personality, make sure you trim that and maintain it properly. Clean it, comb it and set it, but do not mess with it because hygiene is basic in or out of the office.

Keep a check on the quality

You want to look presentable and it’s high time you accept the fact that you can’t look simply perfect with cheap options. Here, by cheap we are not focusing on financial extravagance. We are talking about the quality of the product that you are using. Do not ever compromise with the quality. You might wear a new shirt but if the quality is low the fabric will tell and getting that displayed in front of the office colleagues is not a very much admirable thing that can happen in your life. Do not focus on having 20 different dresses but rather focus on having 10 quality dress. It might seem to you that people are counting those number of times you are repeating a dress. But the fact is that you are no celebrity that you can’t repeat a dress. Being smart with good quality of the dress is much more important in an office.

By concluding these simple tips, we would like to mention one more thing. Do not try to lead always. Every office has its own leaders when it comes to looks. Be consistent on your styling and presentation and you will be on the right track at the right moment.
