Imran Khan Alleges Army Chief's Vendetta behind Wife's Ordeal
Imran Khan accuses Army Chief Gen Asim Munir of targeting his wife, Bushra Bibi, out of personal vengeance, criticizing Pakistan’s judiciary and military regime for unlawful detentions, biased trials, and fabricated charges.
Incarcerated former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has delivered a sharp rebuke of the current military and judicial establishment, accusing Army Chief General Asim Munir of exacting personal revenge against his wife, Bushra Bibi. Speaking via a statement posted on X, Khan said, “As Prime Minister, when I removed General Asim Munir from the post of DG ISI, he sought to approach my wife Bushra Bibi through intermediaries to discuss the matter.”
Khan claims Bushra Bibi rejected Munir’s approach, emphasizing she had “no involvement with such affairs”. He accuses Munir of vindictively orchestrating her prolonged incarceration, currently 14 months, and described her imprisonment as “deplorable and inhumane.”
He further stated, “The way my wife has been targeted for personal vengeance is unprecedented. Even during Pakistan's darkest periods of dictatorship, such a thing never happened.” Khan stressed that Bushra Bibi, a private citizen and homemaker, has been unjustly entangled in “false cases” with “no proof ever presented.” He has not been allowed to meet her in over a month, despite court orders and prison regulations that entitle him to such visitation.
The former premier linked his political persecution and the May 9, 2025, military installation attacks to what he dubbed the “London Plan”, asserting it was aimed at eliminating Pakistan’s largest political force, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).” According to Khan, this “premeditated conspiracy” involved unlawful arrests, the “brazen theft” of democratic mandates, and installation of corrupt elites like the Sharifs and Zardaris.
Calling out the “fascist oppression” by the military-backed Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) regime, Khan said party supporters were “shot at”, and baseless cases have been “fabricated” across the country. He accused anti-terrorism courts and judges of “complicity”, particularly for ignoring crucial CCTV footage from the May 9 events.
“Not a single judge dares to demand those tapes and deliver a verdict based on evidence,” Khan said, adding his party will now petition courts to “demand the release and review of that footage.”
Khan also called for an independent judicial commission to investigate the alleged “massacres” of unarmed PTI supporters on May 9 and November 26, 2024, in Islamabad. He harshly criticized the current judiciary, likening Justice Qazi Faez Isa to Justice Munir, whose controversial rulings once drew global condemnation.
Khan concluded, “The judiciary in Pakistan has never been more disgraceful than it is today,” accusing it of prioritizing “jobs and privileges” over truth and fairness.
