India Makes History by Winning The Thomas Cup Trophy for The First Time
The Indian men’s badminton team created history by winning the Thomas Cup title for the first time with a 3-0 victory over 14-time champions Indonesia in the final on Sunday.
World Badminton Championships medallist Lakshya Sen, Kidambi Srikanth, and World No 8 doubles of Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy featured in India's very first Thomas Cup win.
India defeated 14-time winner Indonesia, by 3-0 to secure their maiden title in the first attempt.
Team India played in the semi-finals of the prestigious tournament in 1952, 1955, and 1979.
The huge final started with Lakshya Sen putting on an enlivened act to lead India off to a great start.
Sen came into the final with defeats in the quarterfinal and semifinal, yet turned the game against Anthony Ginting in the finals, winning 8-21, 21-17, 21-16.

Badminton Association of India president Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday declared total prize money of Rs 1 crore for the Thomas Cup-winning Team.
Sarma additionally declared prize cash of Rs 20 lakh for the care staff.
