New Delhi: Fabled Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav has expressed deep concern over the ongoing controversy surrounding the YouTube program India’s Got Latent. The show has faced eloquent backlash following controversial remarks made by YouTuber Ranveer Allahabadia, which have ignited widespread public outrage. Yadav, best known for his comedic performances, conveyed his unease with the show’s content and emphasized the need to uphold dignity in artistic expression.
Controversy Surrounding India’s Got Latent
Allahbadia’s statements on the show were perceived as offensive and derogatory. Resulting in strong condemnation from various quarters. The uproar led to legal action, with law enforcement agencies intervening.
In response, Rajpal Yadav addressed the situation through a video message, calling it “embarrassing” and voicing his disappointment.
"It's too embarrassing to watch such videos. Our country is a country of culture. I feel ashamed when I watch such videos," Yadav remarked.
Highlighting the perils of seeking fleeting popularity, Yadav criticized the current trend among younger generations of chasing “cheap fame” without considering the long-term impact of their actions.
"What is happening in the process of getting this cheap popularity for our younger generation?" he questioned.
A Call for Artistic Responsibility
Reflecting on the broader consequences of such incidents, Yadav likened the situation to a peacock’s sorrow upon observing its feet.
"I have always felt proud to be an artist. But it is said that when a peacock is very happy, he dances alone in the jungle with his wings spread out, but when he looks at his feet, he cries. Watching such people gives us a feeling of the peacock," he added.
Emphasizing the responsibility that comes with artistic influence, Yadav urged artists and content creators to uphold ethical standards.
"Counseling is very important that at least you do not make art such a toy so that people start hating art," he cautioned. He further implored, "Respect yourself, respect your parents, respect every society, respect the whole country, and respect the whole world."
Legal Action and Industry Backlash
Following the uproar, the Maharashtra Cyber Cell registered a case against the show, implicating 30 to 40 individuals. Authorities are investigating several influences associated with India’s Got Latent, including Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, Apoorva Makhija, Ranveer Allahbadia, and host Samay Raina.
Meanwhile, the All-Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) strongly condemned Allahbadia’s statements, labeling them “abhorrent” and “disrespectful” to societal values. The association has called for a complete boycott of the show and urged industry professionals to sever ties with its creators.
"We call upon all actors, filmmakers, directors, and technicians to immediately cease any collaboration with individuals involved in this show, including host Samay Raina and Ranveer Allahbadia," the AICWA stated.
Allahbadia’s Apology and Ongoing Investigation
Amid the backlash, Ranveer Allahbadia publicly apologized for his remarks, acknowledging their inappropriateness.
"My comment wasn't just inappropriate, it wasn't even funny. Comedy is not my forte, I am just here to say sorry," he stated in a video shared on social media.
Emphasizing his respect for family values, he added, "Family is the last thing that I would ever disrespect."
Allahbadia also requested the show’s producers to remove the contentious segments.
"I have asked the makers of the video to remove the insensitive sections from the video. All I can say in the end is sorry, I hope you can forgive me as a human being," he concluded.
In a related development, the Guwahati Crime branch has filed an FIR against multiple influencers and content creators involved in the show. The charges pertain to obscenity and violations of laws protecting women’s dignity. Authorities continue to investigate, questioning individuals linked to the controversial content.
