In a heartwarming moment that has captured the attention of millions online, Indian astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla reunited with his family in Houston, Texas, after completing a historic space mission aboard the International Space Station (ISS).
Shukla, who made history as the first Indian astronaut to travel to the ISS and only the second Indian to journey into space after Rakesh Sharma in 1984, returned to Earth on July 15. He emerged smiling from SpaceX’s space capsule ‘Grace’, which splashed down in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of California. He was assisted by two crew members upon exit and appeared to be in high spirits.
The mission lasted just over two months, during which the four crew members conducted a series of scientific experiments and collaborative space research.
Soon after his return, Shukla was reunited with his wife Kamna Shukla and their six-year-old son Kiash, who had been eagerly awaiting his homecoming. The reunion took place in Houston, where Shukla is currently recovering and debriefing after the mission.
Photos shared by Shukla on Instagram show the emotional reunion, with Kamna visibly moved to tears and young Kiash leaping into his father's arms. The images quickly went viral, resonating deeply with netizens and drawing messages of admiration and support from around the world.
“Space flight is amazing, but seeing your loved ones after a long time is equally amazing,” Shukla wrote in a caption.
