Indian Student Mohammed Abdul Arfath Found Dead in America; 11th Such Case This Year
Indian student Mohammed Abdul Arfath, 25, studying in the US, found dead in Cleveland. Indian consulate aiding investigation. Family received ransom call, but communication ceased. His death marks the eleventh Indian student fatality in 2024.
In another shocking case, Indian student Mohammed Abdul Arfath was found dead in the United States of America. 25 year old Abdul was from Nacharam, Hyderabad and he moved to America in 2023. Abdul was completing his Master's at Cleveland State University.
The Indian consulate was working with law enforcement agencies to locate Abdul.
“Anguished to learn that Mr. Mohammed Abdul Arfath, for whom search operation was underway, was found dead in Cleveland, Ohio. Our deepest condolences to Mr Mohammed Arfath's family,” the consulate said in a post on X.
“@IndiainNewYork is in touch with local agencies to ensure thorough investigation into Mr Mohammed Abdul Arfath's death. We are extending all possible assistance to the bereaved family to transport his mortal remains to India,” it further added.
Abdul’s father Mohammed Saleem last spoke to him on March 7 after which his cell was switched off.
On March 19, Mr Mohammed Saleem received a call and an unidentified person informed him that Abdul had been kidnapped. They demanded $1,200.
“I got a call from an unknown number, and the caller informed me that my son had been kidnapped and demanded money. The caller did not mention the mode of payment. When I asked the caller to let us talk to my son, he refused,” Mr Saleem told news agency PTI.
Abdul’s friends informed Mr Mohammed Saleem that they filed a missing persons complaint with the Cleveland Police.
The incessant deaths of Indian students in America have left both Indian students and their parents in a state of shock. Abdul’s killing was the eleventh such case in 2024.
