Indian Techie Detained on the Charge of Data Theft

An Indian was arrested in Qatar for an investigation that started in January. The Gulf Nation provides all forms of support to the individual. The convict is Amit Gupta, who works for Tech Mahindra and was detained by the Qatari state security forces on January 1. The Indian Embassy claimed its awareness regarding the detention of the individuals.

“Our embassy continues to provide all possible assistance in the matter,” claimed an authority without giving the identity of and sharing any case details or charges against Amit Gupta. The Indian embassy is constantly in touch with Amit’s relatives and the lawyer. Amit is a resident of Gujrat and he moved to Doha in the year 2013 as per his profile on Linkedin, he was employed by Tech Mahindra in the year 2022. Allegations have also been made that his parents tried meeting their son however, they failed miserably.

According to the reports, Gupta has been detained because of a Data theft case and is currently being probed into the matter. Amit’s mother has also claimed that her son was kept without food for more than 48 hours before they shifted him to a room where he has been living now for nearly three months. The only way to communicate with the son is through a 5-minute phone call which happens every week.

Business giant Tech Mahindra has also extended all forms of support to Amit and is ensuring all forms of support to bring him back. "We remain in close contact with the family, providing necessary support to them. We are also actively coordinating with authorities in both countries and adhering to the due process. Ensuring the well-being of our colleagues is our top priority," claimed one of the spokespersons from Tech Mahindra.

Earlier in February, a group of men got stuck in Libya seeking employment however, the organizer failed to provide them with any form of job, and close to 18 people were entirely stuck in the country before Indian Embassy successfully brought them back to home.

Representing the case, the Ministry of External Affairs claimed that "The Embassy of India in Libya facilitated the return of 18 Indian nationals from Benghazi, Libya. They will be arriving in India tomorrow. They had gone to work in Libya & had been stranded for several weeks. The Embassy worked closely with the local authorities & assisted the Indian workers with rthe equired authorization & travel documents. While their case was being looked into, the Embassy remained in constant touch with them to ensure their well-being, assisting them with articles of daily living."
