Indian Web Series ‘The Night Manager’ Gets Nominated for International Emmy Awards 2024 in Drama Series Category

Indian web series ‘The Night Manager’ starring Anil Kapoor, Aditya Kapoor, and Sobhita Dhulipala has been nominated as an entry for the 2024 International Emmy Awards in the drama series category.

The nominations were announced on Thursday in New York by the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

‘The Night Manager’ is an adaptation of John le Carré’s novel of the same name. The spy thriller directed by Sandeep Modi and Priyanka Ghose, is set in Dhaka amidst the Rohingya genocide in 2017. The series is also partly set in India (Shimla, Jaisalmer, Delhi and Mumbai), Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and the Middle East.)

French show Les Gouttes de Dieu (Drops of God), The Newsreader - Season 2 from Australia and Iosi, El Espia Arrepentido Season 2 from Argentina will compete with ‘The Night Manager’ at the Emmys.

Anil Kapoor was ecstatic to hear the good news. “It’s just been brought to my attention that our Indian adaptation of The Night Manager has been nominated for an International Emmy. I remember when the offer came in, I was conflicted. It offered me the opportunity to play a character so complex, but also, on the other hand, the huge responsibility of trying to add newness and authenticity to a part that had been played so masterfully by Hugh Laurie,” he said.

“This validation from the Emmys, in addition to the tremendous love that we have received from fans worldwide, is a worthy reminder that hard work always pays. I am ecstatic and hungrier than ever before for what’s to come,” the actor added.

“Every year the international television community competes to be recognized on the International Emmys’ much coveted global stage,” the International Academy President & CEO Bruce L Paisner spoke of the Emmys.

The webseries which was released on Disney Hotstar mostly received positive reviews for its performances, direction, production and screenplay.

Speaking of the series, Saibal Chatterjee of NDTV wrote, “Because this version of the series takes four episodes to portray what was packed into three in the 2016 British production, it ends at a point where a great deal still remains to be unpacked.”

The International Emmys will be held in New York on November 25. Indian comedian Vir Das, who won the International Emmy Award last year, for Best Comedy Series for ‘Vir Das: Landing’, will be hosting the Emmys this year.
