Introducing ‘Al Hilm’, The Official Ball of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Finals
“AL HILM represents a beacon of light on the power of sport and football to bring the world together,” said Adidas Football GM Nick Craggs.
Adidas has unveiled the official match ball for the Qatar World Cup semi-finals and final. The new match ball, entitled "Al Hilm," translates to "The Dream" in Arabic. It replaces the current match ball, Al Rihla, which means "The Journey."
Match officials continue to benefit from in-ball IMU sensors and "Connected Ball" technology to make faster and more accurate decisions on the pitch. In its 2-0 victory over Uruguay, Cristiano Ronaldo's "hair goal" was famously debunked by the ball's built-in sensors, which also supported the semi-automated offside system.
With a gold base, red accents, and subtle triangular patterns inspired by the deserts surrounding Doha, the World Cup trophy, and the Qatar flag, the Al Hilm ball is made with environmentally friendly water-based inks and glues.
"Al Hilm represents the power of sport and football to bring people together," said adidas Football GM Nick Craggs. The game will be watched by millions around the world, united by their passion for the sport. All teams participating in the final stages of the tournament are wished the best of luck on the biggest stage in football."
