Iowa Salon Lambasted Online for Posting Ivanka Trump’s Picture on Facebook

A salon in Iowa posted a picture of Ivanka Trump, the first daughter of Donald Trump and presidential advisor, on their Facebook page after she visited the salon. However, they did not receive the response they were expecting. Much to their surprise they had to face the ire of the people some of whom are their clients. The online criticism they received was unexpected.

Many have even decided not to visit the salon again. Ivanka’s visit has proven to be more of a hassle than a help. The social media backlash was unexpected.

Ivanka, who is also the Presidential advisor, was in Iowa to visit the Waukee Innovation and Learning Center as a part of a White House plan to promote its infrastructure plan.

She decided to get her hair styled at the salon just before attending an event. Salon Spa W which is situated in Des Moines’ East Village, uploaded a picture on their Facebook page to promote their salon. Their facebook page read -“Our Monday kicked off with styling Ivanka Trump for her visit to Iowa! We [love] supporting women in politics,”.

Immediately they received negative comments about the picture. Each and every client was upset and did not shy away from expressing it online. This move of theirs will probably hurt their business as many have threatened not to patronize the salon. They were criticized for offering their services to Ms Trump.

One post read,“should know better” than to serve Trump, while others said they lost all respect for the employees.

One client wrote, “I love all the wonderful things Salon W does for our community so it’s such a bummer to see this post as a business brag. Only problem with supporting women in politics is when those women support decisions that weaken and disenfranchise other women.”

Another post read, “Salon Spa W, you’ve definitely lost my business with this cheap publicity ploy.” There were many such posts that slammed the salon. The Salon Spa had to take a beating for making such a fatal move.

The President of the salon, China Wong posted a response after the online slamming. The post read, “We believe everyone matters and deserves our indiscriminate care and kindness.” It also stated, “We were taken aback by the response to the image of our Governor with Ivanka Trump who received services from our salon. We also recognize impact matters more than intent,”. It went on to state, “While we are not a partisan organization we do see it as part of our mission to welcome people to Des Moines and serve everyone. We share images of our clients, some that are recognizable public figures, to showcase our work."

The salon is situated a few blocks away from the Iowa State Capitol and boasts of a clientele ranging from musicians, actors and even former President Barack Obama graced the salon.

Wong also added another post stating, “We proudly share our work and celebrate all of you because our purpose is making people look and feel beautiful,”. After this post, the online response has changed from negative to positive.
