Japanese Entrepreneur Invites People to Join Him on the Adventurous Moon Expedition

Would you enjoy a free expedition to the moon and back to the earth with a couple of good companions? If yes, then here’s your chance to grab the opportunity!

Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa has invited eight people from around the world to board the spaceship along with him and savour an adventurous trip to the moon on Elon Musk’s SpaceX flight.

The trip which is called dearMoon would be free as the billionaire is prepared to bear all the expenses for the entire celestial journey.

“I have bought all the seats, so it will be a private ride,” Mr. Maezawa said.

The applicants however need to meet a certain criteria:

The first is to “help other people and greater society in some way” by advancing the work they are already into and those who are “willing to support other crew members who share similar aspirations.”

He wants people from all backgrounds to join in. There would be a selection process and only 10 to 12 people will finally board the rocket.

Initially, the fashion mogul wished to invite only artists on the spaceship however he made some changes later.

He decided to give people around the globe a chance as he realized that “every single person who is doing something creative could be called an artist.”

The spaceship will not land on the moon however it will loop around the moon before returning to earth. The voyage is scheduled to take place in 2023.

Besides being an entrepreneur Maezawa is an art collector and a fashion mogul. He launched an online fashion retail website Zozotown in 2004 which is now one of the largest in Japan. He is also the founder of the Tokyo-based Contemporary Art Foundation which supports young artists.

Last year the entrepreneur made headlines when he created an online ad through which he’s asked a girlfriend to accompany him on the SpaceX flight. Surprisingly, even after receiving 30,000 applicants, he cancelled the hunt due to “mixed feelings.”

Interested applicants for the voyage need to pre-register by March 14 and there will be an initial screening by March 21st.
