JEE exams across India began today amidst the fear of the pandemic and protests to stop the exam from being held this year. Over 7 lakhs students across India are appearing for this exam.
Despite students taking their appeal to court to prevent the exams from being held, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has decided to go ahead with the exams on which the future of millions of students depend.
The Supreme Court dismissed the students’ plea stating, “ultimately life has to go on and the career of the students cannot be put on peril for long and a full academic year cannot be wasted.”
The students followed the guidelines that were released by the National Testing Agency last week.
1. At major exam centres across India students were seen following safety protocol such as wearing masks and gloves. They maintained social distance while entering the exam premises.
2. In New Delhi exam centres, the temperatures of students were checked and hand sanitizers were provided. Limited students were seated in one room.
3. In states like Odisha, Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh students have been assured of transportation by the government.
4. In Guwahati, Assam not many students turned up for the exam due Covid-19 concerns. Parents and students made their own travel arrangements.
5. In Mumbai many students reached the exam centres amidst rain. Railways have permitted special suburban services to students and their guardians on exam days.
6. In Karnataka, State Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakar has said that all precautionary measures and safety protocol are in place to ensure the JEE exam is carried appropriately from September 1 to September 6.
The JEE exam that was scheduled to take place in April was postponed twice due to the ongoing coronavirus crisis. The National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET), the entrance exam for medical courses will be held on September 13.
