Kambli Undergoing Rehab and Physiotherapy after Health Scare

Former Indian cricketer Vinod Kambli, who was hospitalised in December last year due to a urinary infection and cramps, is currently recovering at his residence in Bandra. Though his condition has improved, his progress remains slow, according to his family.

Kambli was admitted to Akruti Hospital in Thane, where doctors initially diagnosed a urinary infection. However, further investigations, including MRI scans, revealed a clot in his brain. He was kept under close observation before being discharged.

“It’s been nine months since his hospitalisation. He is at home right now and getting stable, but his treatment is ongoing,” said his brother, Virendra Kambli, in an interview on The Vickey Lalwani Show. “He’s having difficulty speaking. It will take time, but he’s a champion — he will come back. He will walk again, he will run again, hopefully. I have a lot of faith in him.”

After being discharged, Kambli underwent a 10-day rehabilitation programme and a full medical check-up, including brain scans and urine tests. While no major complications were reported, he has been advised physiotherapy to aid his mobility.

“He still slurs in his speech, but he is getting better. Since he couldn’t walk, physiotherapy was recommended. I just want to tell people to keep praying for him. He needs your love and support,” Virendra added.

Once hailed as one of Indian cricket’s brightest talents, Vinod Kambli played 17 Tests and 104 ODIs for India, known for his flamboyant batting and iconic partnership with childhood friend Sachin Tendulkar.

As fans await updates on his health, Virendra remains hopeful. “I hope people will see him back on the ground one day.”
