Karl Lagerfeld’s Rich Cat to Inherit His $200 Million Fortune
Long before his death, Lagerfeld had said that he had made sure that Choupette would continue to live in the style that she is accustomed to, with her own personal bodyguard and two maids.
Karl Lagerfeld, the iconic fashion designer who died recently had already signed a part of his will in favour of his cat Choupette, who is soon going to inherit his $200 million fortune. So if things go in the right direction, the white fluffy Burmese cat is going to become the richest feline on earth.
Karl Lagerfeld’s cat Choupette is already famous in the fashion industry. The pampered eight-year-old puss, who enjoys a lavish lifestyle like eating on silver platters since Lagerfeld hijacked her in 2011 from his young friend and model Baptiste Giabiconi.
Long before his death, Lagerfeld had said that he had made sure that Choupette would continue to live in the style that she is accustomed to, with her own personal bodyguard and two maids. Lagerfeld also said, “She is like a human being, only with an extra quality – silence. She has something unforgettable in the way she moves, I am inspired by her elegance and her attitude”. The legendary designer who lived alone has admitted, “Choupette is the centre of my world”.
During a television interview, Lagerfeld had said, “Choupette is a rich girl”, hinting that he had written her into his will. He also said, “She has her own fortune”, about $3.4 million, which she earned with him doing an advertisement for a German car company and a Japanese cosmetics brand.
Lagerfeld, who had worked as a designer for Chanel, Fendi and his own brand right till his death at the age of 85 years also said, “If anything happens the person who looks after her will not go without”.
Choupette, who is also called the Kaiser, is compared to the enigmatic star Greta Garbo, who is considered a cult figure in the fashion world, with more than 170,000 followers on social media.
Choupette is also the central figure of a book, “Choupette: The Private Life of a High-Flying Fashion Cat”, where she was photographed in the arms of supermodel Linda Evangelista and model turned actress Laetitia Casta. The book also includes recipes for her favourite meals prepared by some of the best restaurants in Paris. The meal includes a mix of king crab, smoked salmon and caviar. Unlike ordinary cats, Choupette eats at a table.
Though things would look easier for Choupette to inherit the fortune but under French law, Lagerfeld could not leave his millions to a cat. At the same time, Choupette’s big rival for the Lagerfeld millions may be his godson Hudson Kroenig, who is the blonde 10-year-old son of his muse, US model Brad Kroenig.
