Comedian Jimmy Kimmel has returned to his famous talk show, Jimmy Kimmel Live, after a week-long suspension by network ABC.

He was suspended over his controversial remarks regarding Charlie Kirk’s death.

“It was never my intention to make light of the murder of a young man,” Kimmel told his audience, visibly emotional and at times holding back tears.

Kimmel revealed that he had reached out privately to Kirk’s family via social media on the day of the tragic shooting. He stressed that he never intended to assign blame to any political group and instead meant to highlight the senseless nature of the violence.

"It was obviously a deeply disturbed individual. That was really the opposite of the point I was trying to make. But I understand that, to some, it felt either ill-timed or unclear."

He also highlighted a powerful and humbling event over the weekend, saying, “Erika Kirk forgave the man who shot her husband. That is an example we should follow.”

He said that the forgiveness shown by a grieving widow touched him deeply. Being a follower of Jesus Christ, he shared that her act of grace had a profound impact on him.

“If there’s anything we should take from this tragedy to carry forward, I hope it can be that.”

In his return, Kimmel also addressed the growing tension between creative expression and public backlash, reaffirming his belief in the importance of free speech. He firmly believes that silencing free speech is anti-American.

He was grateful to Disney for bringing him back on air after what he described as a “thoughtful discussion” between both parties.
