A crystal-embroidered sock once worn by Michael Jackson during his 1997 “HIStory World Tour” was sold at auction in France for $8,000, well above its initial estimated value.

It was part of a sale featuring music memorabilia. Organizers described it as a “cult object.”

A technician found the used sock discarded near Jackson's dressing room after the concert in the southern city of Nîmes in July 1997, auctioneer Aurore Illy told AFP.

The technician, who kept the sock for nearly three decades, eventually decided to put it up for sale.

“It really is an exceptional object – even a cult one for Michael Jackson fans,” Illy said.

The “King of Pop” wore the white athletic socks embellished with rhinestones during his “HIStory World Tour” in 1997, according to the website interencheres.com.

As many years have passed since Jackson wore them, the sock appears stained with yellowed embellishments; a symbol of its long journey from the stage to an auction block.

A gaming resort in Macau purchased a glittery glove worn by Jackson during his inaugural “moonwalk” performance in 1983 for $350,000 in 2009. A hat he used just before that iconic performance sold for over $80,000 in Paris in 2023.

The white athletic sock, adorned with rhinestones, was a signature part of Jackson’s iconic stage attire.

The frequency with which Michael Jackson’s personal items are sold highlights the loyalty of his fanbase.

Jackson’s stage costumes and personal effects continue to captivate collectors, highlighting the enduring appeal of the “King of Pop.” Experts say the value of such items stems not only from celebrity association but also from the rich stories they carry.
