Singer Krishnakumar Kunnath popularly known as KK died on May 23 after giving a live performance at Nazrul Mancha, Kolkata. He was 53. 

He was escorted after the concert and he clearly didn’t look well. He wasn’t well in the hotel room and all efforts were made to revive him after he reportedly suffered a cardiac arrest in the room. He was later declared dead when he was brought to CMRI hospital. 

“KK was brought to the hospital around 10 pm. It’s unfortunate that we could not treat him,” a senior official of the hospital told news agency PTI.

The cause of his death is yet to be ascertained. The post mortem will be conducted today after the consent of his family. Doctors suspect cardiac arrest to be the cause of the death. 

Videos circulating online show that the singer was sweating badly during the concert. 

As per a PTI report a police official said, “We have started an investigation into singer KK's death and a case of unnatural death has been registered with the New Market Police Station. We are talking to the hotel authorities and scrutinising CCTV footage to understand what had happened before he was taken to the hospital.”

KK’s death has sent shockwaves across the country especially in the Indian Music Industry. 

Tributes pour in for the talented singer: 

Actor Vicky Kaushal wrote, "Your magical voice will live on forever. Thank you for your evergreen songs." Ranveer Singh added a broken heart emoji on KK’s picture in an Instagram story. 

Filmmaker Srijit Mukerji wrote on Facebook, "In a state of total shock. Just met him last month for the first time and it seemed that we had known each other for years. The chatter wouldn’t just stop. And I was so moved to see the love he had for Gulzar saab. He said he stepped into the film world with Chhor aaye hum and sang it to him as a tribute. Farewell, my newest friend. Will miss you. I wish we could have had more sessions on music and food and cinema."

Mamta Bannerjee tweeted, “The sudden and untimely demise of the Bollywood playback singer KK shocks and saddens us. My colleagues have been working from last night to ensure that all requisite support is given for necessary formalities, his rites and to his family now. My deep condolences.”

PM Modi mourned the death of KK. He said he was saddened by the untimely demise of the noted singer.

KK made his singing debut with A R Rehman’s soundtrack. In 1999 he launched his debut album ‘Pal’ which became a superhit. Some of his popular songs are ‘Aankhon Mein Teri’ from ‘Om Shanti Om’, ‘Khuda Jane’ from ‘Bachna Ae Haseeno’, ‘Kya Mujhe Pyaar Hai’ from ‘Woh Lamhe’ so on and so forth. 

The family of the singer has already arrived in Kolkata. The singer’s body will be taken to Mumbai after the autopsy is complete. The funeral is also likely to take place in Kolkata. The singer is survived by his wife Jyothy, son Nakul Krishna Kunnath and daughter Tamara Kunnath.
