Krishna Raj Kapoor Passes away of Cardiac Arrest, after Grandson Ranbir’s 36th Birthday

Krishna Raj Kapoor, the wife of legendary Indian actor Raj Kapoor has passed away. She was 87 and died of cardiac arrest. Her eldest son Randhir Kapoor confirmed the news stating to the media, “My mother passed away at about 5 am today due to cardiac arrest... old age was another factor. We are deeply saddened by her demise.”

Raj Kapoor and Krishna Malhotra started their journey together in 1946. And despite having a grand family including 5 children - Randhir Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor, Rajiv Kapoor, Rima Jain and Ritu Nana, Krishna Kapoor’s life was unfortunately, not all bed of roses.

Being a leading actor and filmmaker of his times, controversy never really ceased to chase the professional and personal life of Raj Kapoor. His link up news and rumors with other actresses greatly affected Raj and Krishna’s married life. However, the couple never parted ways.

Their son, actor Rishi Kapoor, wrote in his autobiography, ‘Khullam Khulla’, “No matter what was said and written, Papa loved mother deeply. The truth is that all life he remained obsessed with her. He may not have expressed it to her the way she’d have liked him to. She may not have been a big part of his life. But whatever Raj Kapoor did, he came back home. His love for her was immense. He’d even press her legs and joke, ‘Raj Kapoor ka kya haal bana diya! Meri biwi mujhe pair dabane lagaa rahi hai. Ghar ki murgi dal barabar!’ He loved celebrating New Years because it also happened to be mom’s birthday”.

The next generation of the Kapoors is also very much carrying forward the legacy in the film industry, that Raj Kapoor, "The greatest showman of Hindi cinema" once founded. One of them, of course, is the very charming Ranbir Kapoor, one of the leading and highest paid actors of this time, recently celebrated his 36th birthday, on September 28, Friday. Months back, Ranbir posted a family picture including his granny Krishna Kapoor, that was taken in Paris, France.

Ranbir’s sister Riddhima Kapoor has put up two images of her grandma expressing her eternal love for the lady, “I love you- I will always love you - RIP dadi”.

90s leading lady Karishma Kapoor and ‘Jab We Met’ actress Kareena Kapoor are two of her other grandchildren who have attained huge success in their acting careers.

Celebrities like Anupam Kher, Raveena Tandon, Farah Khan, Madhur Bhandarkar paid their last respects to Krishna Raj Kapoor on Twitter. Seasoned actor Anupam Kher tweeted, “Deeply saddened to learn about the sad demise of Smt. #KrishnaRajKapoorJi. She was one of the most dignified and affectionate ladies that I met. May her soul rest in peace. My condolences to the entire Kapoor and Nanda family. Om Shanti.”

Former actress Raveena Tandon exclaimed, “An era passes away,#KrishnaRajKapoor .”
