Lashana Lynch to Play 007 in the Upcoming ‘Bond 25’

Lashana Lynch of ‘Captain Marvel’ fame will take on the role of the new 007 in the upcoming film ‘Bond 25.’ This breaking news was revealed by a source to Daily Mail.

“It’s a popcorn-dropping moment. Bond is still Bond but he’s been replaced as 007 by this stunning woman,” an insider told the Daily Mail.

If this comes to pass, Lynch will be the first woman and the first black actor to take up this specific role. Besides the new female 007, a female writer by the name of Phoebe Waller-Bridge will work on the script of the movie. She’s also well known for her work on the British comedy television series- ‘Fleabag.’

She would be the second credited woman screen-writer in 60 years of Bond films to have worked upon a bond script. The first woman being screen-writer- Johanna Harwood who worked on ‘Dr. No’ and ‘From Russia with Love.’

This step is definitely a significant change when it comes to ‘James Bond’ brand of movies where viewers are used to seeing intelligent, brave but flamboyant male characters. Bond plots over the years did have sexist undertones but now with two women taking up prominent positions in the franchise, the treatment of women in the flicks will definitely be different.

The writer of the upcoming movie has also made the aforementioned point clear when she said, “I think [James Bond] is absolutely relevant now. It has just got to grow. It has just got to evolve, and the important thing is that the film treats the women properly,” said Waller-Bridge in an interview with Deadline

The news of a black woman taking up 007’s role has received mixed reviews. Some fans are completely against a woman taking up a prominent role in the franchise. They believe that this would change the essence of bond flicks.

Bond fans are clearly split after receiving the breaking news. Viewers are fearing that the franchise will lose its essence after the introduction of a female lead however writer Phoebe Waller-Bridge has assured fans that nothing will change when it comes to Bond’s character. She said, “He doesn’t have to. He needs to be true to his character.” She promised that his character is absolutely relevant even today.
