Legendary Singer SP Balasubrahmanyam Passed Away at the Age of 74

Legendary playback singer Balasubrahmanyam breathed his last at a hospital in Chennai. 

His son has confirmed the news of his death. Balasubrahmanyam has been hospitalized since August 5 after being infected with the coronavirus. On Thursday, the MGM Healthcare where he was admitted issued a statement saying that his condition has become very serious. Despite being placed on the life support system his condition deteriorated further and he suffered a cardio-respiratory arrest. 

SP Balasubrahmanyam was born in the Telugu family of Nellore and his father S.P. Sambamurthy was a Harikatha Artist. SP Balasubrahmanyam sang songs in about 16 languages including Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam and Tamil. He was the voice of Salman Khan in Bollywood and sang songs in films like ‘Maine Pyaar Kiya’ and ‘Hum Aapke Hain Kaun’. 

In the year 2012, he received the state NTR National Award for his contributions to Indian cinema. In 2016, SP Balasubrahmanyam was honored with the Indian Film Personality of the Year consisting of a Silver Peacock Medal. He was a recipient of the Padma Shri (2001) and Padma Bhushan (2011). 

Balasubrahmanyam is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter — both are playback singers.
