Leonardo DiCaprio Makes a Huge Donation towards Ukraine

American star Leonardo DiCaprio has donated a whopping $10 million to Ukraine in their fight against Russia.

Besides the war crisis and his generosity, there’s another reason why the Titanic star made this huge contribution. It’s because he has Ukrainian roots. 

His maternal grandmother Helene Indenbirken was born in Odessa, Ukraine, and later moved to Germany in 1917. She gave birth to Leo’s mother Irmelin Indenbirken in an air raid shelter in 1943. 

After Irmelin Indenbirken divorced her husband, Leo became close to his mother and grandmother. 

It’s a well-known fact that the Titanic star was very fond of his grandmother and this huge contribution towards his grandmother’s birthplace doesn’t come as a surprise. 

Helene was also known for accompanying him to film premieres such as the ‘Titanic’ and ‘The Man in the Iron Mask.’ She supported his acting career as well. 

Besides DiCaprio, other celebrities have come forward to help Ukraine amidst their fight against Russia. Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis  have pledged to match up to $3million in donations while still aiming for $30 million. The funds raised will be used towards the welfare of Ukrainian refugees. 

Just like Leonardo, Kunis also has Ukrainian roots. The actress was born in in Chernivtsi in Ukraine.

“I have always considered myself an American, a proud American. I love everything this country has done for myself and my family,” the 38-year-old said.

“But today I have never been more proud to be a Ukrainian. The events that have unfolded in Ukraine are devastating. There is no place in this world for this kind of unjust attack on humanity”, the actress expressed. 

Photographs of Kunis and Ashton having a meet with President Zelensky and his wife Olena in 2019 have also resurfaced on the internet.
