Making of Titanic II is in Process and It Could Set Sail by 2022

The unforgettable tragical event of luxury liner Titanic that sank on April 15, 1912, gripped and fascinated the world and the discussion on this ‘ill fated’ ship doesn’t seem to cease. Who could forget the heart-wrenching stories of how families had to leave their loved ones behind in the sinking ship while they were forced to set sail on lifeboats.

Numerous stories of heroism unfolded wherein many individuals gave up spots in lifeboats just to be with their loved ones who were left behind in the British steamship. Now, Australian businessman Clive Palmer has rekindled the topic on the mystical ship by announcing that the work on the replica of has begun after a halt due to a financial dispute with the Chinese government in 2015.

Apparently, the ship will be an identical copy of the original Titanic that sank after colliding with an iceberg. It will be designed exactly the same way as the original with the iconic grand staircase which was seen in the movie ‘Titanic’. The Blue Star line will have nine decks and will be home to 835 cabins which will accommodate 2435 passengers. The creators of the replica are leaving no stone unturned to ensure the safety of passengers and the ship.

This time the luxury liner will have plenty of lifeboats unlike before and the hull would be welded and not riveted. The replica would be equipped with the latest modern features and navigation. The interiors would also be as similar as possible to the original liner. Like the original voyage, this liner would carry passengers from Southhampton to New York. According to CruiseArabia, the maiden voyage, however, would take place from Dubai to New York in 2022. Passengers will be able to buy first, second and third class tickets. The enchanting ship will travel to other places as well.

Some critics feel that creating a replica of the original Titanic is “insensitive” and a mockery of the memory of those who died.” Cruise lines like Cunard line stated that they "have always been very mindful and very respectful of such a tragic event [and] don't think that building a replica or a 'II' is appropriate." Besides Titanic II, another Titanic replica is in the making in China. This Chinese Titanic replica is scheduled to be completed in 2019 and it is not intended to sail however it will permanently be docked within a reservoir. The estimated cost of building this replica is $145 million. Meanwhile, American company OceanGate has scheduled diving trips to the Titanic shipwreck in 2019. The cost would be $105,129 per person.

Only time will tell whether traveling enthusiasts and adventurers will take the leap and step on the deck of the upcoming replica or will they consider it to be a bad omen keeping in mind the severity of the original tragedy. It’s left to be seen whether the Titanic II will be akin to the original and magnificent steamship that doesn’t fail to capture our hearts, mind and soul even to this day.
