MBA Graduate Arrested in Delhi for Serial Snatching Incidents
An MBA graduate battling unemployment and drug addiction was arrested in Dwarka for serial snatching cases. Police recovered seven stolen phones and a scooter as investigations into his sudden criminal shift continue.
An unusual episode unfolded in southwest Delhi when police detained an MBA-credentialed individual who had purportedly descended into a streak of opportunistic snatching. The accused, Pradeep Kumar Malik, also known as Rahul, a resident of Palam, was apprehended with seven pilfered mobile devices and a purloined scooter, officials disclosed on Tuesday.
Investigators revealed that Malik, despite holding a postgraduate business degree from a reputable institution, had become vocationally adrift and succumbed to substance dependency, steering him toward petty criminality. His arrest occurred after a covert police ambuscade was executed near the railway line abutting DDA Park on November 20.
For weeks, authorities had been grappling with a spate of swift snatching episodes attributed to a scooter-borne perpetrator in the Dwarka South locality. Police meticulously scrutinised footage from over 300 surveillance cameras and activated a network of local informants, gradually closing in on the suspect.
Acting upon an anonymous intelligence cue, officers intercepted a man exhibiting suspicious behaviour near the railway track. When instructed to halt, he allegedly attempted an abrupt getaway but was subdued after a fleeting pursuit, a senior investigator recounted.
During interrogation, Malik confessed to misappropriating a scooter from the Dabri area. He further admitted that the stolen mobile phones had been discreetly concealed within the vehicle’s storage compartment. Acting on his disclosure, the police retrieved five devices linked to registered snatching cases reported in Dwarka South and Palam Village, along with the stolen scooter.
Two additional mobile phones found in his possession are currently being examined to determine whether they correlate with any outstanding FIRs. Notably, police confirmed that Malik has no antecedent criminal dossier, making his abrupt foray into unlawful activity even more perplexing.
Authorities continue to probe the wider circumstances surrounding his illicit conduct while evaluating whether he operated independently or was connected to a broader syndicate.
